Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas)

Fairly often present on unimproved grassland, waste ground or unmanaged verges where the caterpillar foodplant Sorrel or Sheep’s Sorrel is growing, Small Coppers are rarely present in large numbers but it is hard to miss their brilliant orange-copper colour and the male’s dashing defence of his patch against all other passing insects.
